Description
The overall goal of the residency is to create an IBM Redbooks publication describing, for example, how to modernize your Infrastructure with Power Systems and Red Hat OpenShift to deploy workloads using theoretical knowledge, hands-on exercises, and documenting the findings by way of sample scenarios.
The IBM Redbooks publication that the residents will co-create targets technical readers including Technical Sellers, IT Specialist, Systems Architects, Developers, Brand Specialists, and anyone looking for a reference guide on how to modernizing your Infrastructure with IBM Power Systems and Red Hat OpenShift to deploy workloads either on-premises or in the Cloud.
Benefits to Resident
This is a great opportunity to participate in the IBM Redbooks Residency Program and use the available hardware, software, training materials, and documentation resources to collaborate and co-create the Modernizing your Infrastructure with Red Hat OpenShift on IBM Power Systems Redbooks publication.
The residents will work closely with the technical focal points from IBM Power Systems, IBM Cloud, IBM Power Systems Virtual Server, Red Hat including the software, hardware, and storage development teams, and get hands-on experiences while developing a guide with case studies to show how to architect, virtualize, implement, and deploy applications with Red Hat OpenShift on Power Systems.
After these four weeks experience (please see the residency timetable), the residents will refresh skills on Red Hat OpenShift, Power Systems, IBM Cloud, IBM Power Virtual Server, and many more solutions enabling them to provide a leading role on Technical Sales, implementation, and support.
===>>>>> Please NOTE the Residency Program Timetable <<<<======
This residency begins on October 25, 2021, and ends November 19, 2021 (4 weeks, please see schedule below). The residency is running Virtually (best effort) with the following format:
For four weeks (October 25 through November 19) - The residents will collaborate virtually from their respective countries.
Note: Best effort. Business priorities will take precedence.
Additional Notes:
+ Dialogue with your management to gain approval before applying for this residency. Refer to the residency timetable for specific project dates.
+ You must be flexible in your start and end dates as these may change.
IBM Redbooks want technical practitioners to be recognized for their newly gained knowledge, experience, and accomplishments. Therefore, upon successful delivery of the publication produced by this IBM Redbooks residency, you will become eligible to earn an IBM Redbooks Digital Badge issued through Credly.
Objectives
The IBM Redbooks publication the residency team will collaborate developing attempts to address topics for Technical Sellers, IT Specialist, Systems Architects, Developers, Brand Specialists, and anyone looking to modernizing a workload on IBM Power Systems environment with Red Hat OpenShift. Moreover, this publication will provide documentation to transfer the how-to-skills to the technical teams, and solution guidance to the sales team. This book compliments the documentation available at IBM Documents and aligns with the educational materials provided by the IBM Garage for Systems Technical Training.
The residency will utilize any available documentation, hardware, and software resources to (this is not a comprehensive list):
+ Conduct and document installation, configuration, and case studies.
+ Document sizing guidelines to help provide an optimal system configuration and implementation.
+ Experiment migration scenarios for workloads currently running on older generations of Power Systems servers.
+ Experiment modernizing legacy applications by building services to leverage these legacy applications on newer generation of Power Systems servers running on-premises or in the Cloud.
+ Help develop and document best practices on how to journey workloads and the transition of workloads to the Cloud.
+ Provide guidance to the Technical Sales teams about the solution.
The follow is a list of current IBM Redbooks and IBM Redpapers that can be leveraged during the project:
SG24-7286 - Deploying Critical Applications with Red Hat OpenShift on Power Systems.
SG24-7338 - Tuning Red Hat Enterprise Linux on Power Systems.
SG24-7499 - Virtualizing an Infrastructure with Power Systems and Red Hat OpenShift.
REDP-4469 - Power Systems: Monitoring and Instrumenting Applications running on Red Hat OpenShift for performance and Functional Problems.
Resident Prerequisites
A basic requirement for all residents is the ability to read and clearly express concepts and procedures in common English.
Technical Skills Required
NOTE: You won't match one-to-one all the necessary technical prerequisites, but the combine residency team will bring the skills required for the project. Please provide as much detail of your technical expertise and experiences with the solution.
The selected residents will bring the following (combined) technical skills to the residency:
+ Knowledge and experiences with Multi Cloud and Hybrid Cloud Solutions
+ Experiences with IBM Cloud including IBM Power Virtual Server
+ Experiences with Red Hat OpenShift
+ Experiences working with Containers and Kubernetes
+ Experiences IBM Power Systems installation, management including virtualization features
+ Linux distros installation and management (SUSE and Red Hat)
+ IBM System Storage Solutions and disk replication experiences
+ Networking and I/O protocols configurations experiences
+ Technical documentation skills
+ Willing to read, learn, dialogue, ask questions, and challenge the teams
In addition to authoring a Redbooks deliverable, participants will be expected to create at least one technical blog post and to appear in one video to complement the main deliverable. The blog posts can be done during the residency, or immediately after the residency ends and the participant has returned home. Participants will also be asked to help promote all deliverables created during the residency through social media.
