i5/OS Diagnostic Tools for System Administrators: An A to Z Reference for Problem Determination
Power Systems
Redbooks, published 31 Mar 2008, last updated 15 Apr 2008
Although the System i servers rate over a 99.9% availability factor, there are times when problems occur. Some problems limit the use of a device, program, or application. More severe and pervasive problems limit the use of more components. In either circumstance, the amount of time a component is unavailable relates directly to the actions taken to manage the situation. The ability to resolve problems depends on the tools that are available, the knowledge (and attitude) of the worker, the symptoms and nature of the problem at hand, and other factors. This book is designed to introduce you ... [more]
Journaling at Object Creation with i5/OS V6R1M0
Power Systems
Web Doc, published 15 Apr 2008
There is often a gap between the time an object is created and the time that journaling is started because it is a two-step process. Sometimes users have a background process that detects newly created objects and starts journaling for them. This time gap is an exposure for disaster recovery should the system terminate in this window. It is also an exposure for maintaining high availability. The ability to have objects journaled at object creation time was made possible in Version 5 Release 4 modification 0 (V5R4M0) of the i5/OS operating system with the use of a data area named QDFTJRN. In ... [more]
